What this is
Bookdle is a small daily game. Each day a pixelated book cover is revealed a little more with every guess, and you have a handful of tries to name the book.
It is a free, non-commercial project made for fun. There are no accounts, no adverts and no tracking.
Where the books come from
Titles, authors, publication years, genres and synopses are sourced from Hardcover, a community book database. Cover images are used only to identify the books in the game.
Covers, synopses and other book material belong to their publishers, authors and designers. If you hold the rights to something shown here and would like it removed or credited differently, email [email protected] and it will be taken down promptly.
Privacy
The game is designed to know as little about you as possible.
- No accounts, no cookies, no analytics. Nothing identifies you to the server when you play.
- Your progress and statistics stay in your browser. They are kept in local storage on your device and are never uploaded. Clearing your browser data removes them.
- Anonymous play counts. When a game ends, the server records only the date, whether it was solved and in how many guesses, so the site can show how many people solved each day's book. No identifier is stored with it.
- Server logs. Like almost every website, the web server records each request with your IP address, browser type and the time. These logs are used only to keep the site running and secure, and are deleted automatically after 14 days.
- Hosting. The site is served through Cloudflare, which processes requests on the way to the server and keeps its own short-lived logs.
- Fonts and images are served from this site, so no third party sees your visit.
The only cookie on the site is used by the administrator to log in to the management pages. Visitors never receive it.
Under UK data protection law, the site operator is the controller for the server logs described above. Questions about your data can be sent to [email protected].

- The operator is not liable for any loss arising from the use of, or inability to use, the site.
- Book covers, synopses and metadata remain the property of their respective rights holders and are used for identification only. Takedown requests are honoured promptly.
- The game's own code and design are the work of its operator.
- The typefaces Fraunces and Inter are used under the SIL Open Font License.
